🚀 About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Retrofit Engineer II to join our engineering team supporting modernization and upgrade projects for existing customer equipment manufactured by Serac Inc..

This role focuses on machine modifications, controls upgrades, format changes (new bottles/caps), and performance improvements. You will work cross-functionally with Engineering, Field Service, Supply Chain, and Customers to deliver high-quality retrofit solutions from RFQ through commissioning.

This is an onsite position based in Carol Stream, Illinois.

🛠 Key Responsibilities

🔍 Evaluate & Define Retrofit Scope

• Review RFQs, customer specifications, drawings, and samples

• Assess feasibility and define project scope

• Recommend technical solutions for upgrades and modifications

⚙ Develop & Execute Engineering Solutions

• Modify electrical and mechanical designs

• Support PLC updates and system integration

• Assist with testing, validation, and compliance to standards

💲 Support Quoting & Procurement

• Assist with cost estimates and technical input for proposals

• Generate and review Bills of Materials (BOMs)

• Coordinate with vendors and purchasing teams

🏭 Installation & Commissioning Support

• Collaborate with Field Service during installation and startup

• Support FAT/SAT and system debugging

• Ensure successful project handoff to customer

📄 Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain engineering documentation and revision records

• Create functional design specs, control narratives, and as-builts

• Support continuous improvement efforts

✅ Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical, or related field)
  Equivalent experience may be considered

• 5+ years of experience in industrial automation or machinery engineering

• Experience working with PLC-controlled systems

• Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings

• Strong understanding of industrial machinery and automation systems

• Experience supporting commissioning and troubleshooting activities

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

• Willingness to travel up to 25%

⭐ Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with packaging machinery (fillers, cappers, conveyors)

• Allen-Bradley / Siemens PLC exposure

• AutoCAD Electrical or SolidWorks experience

• Knowledge of UL508A, NFPA, or machine safety standards

• Spanish or French language skills
